How do you create engaging and informative books for young people? Join award-winning author Michelle Mulder as she shares her process from research to polished publication.  Michelle is the author of a dozen books for young people, including picture books, junior fiction and several nonfiction books in the Orca Footprints collection.  This presentation will focus on Pedal It! How Bicycles are Changing the World, a passionate narrative about the power of pedaling, both locally and globally.

Kari Jones, Victoria author of So Much for Democracy, Out of Season and Storm Tide, and Creative Writing teacher at Camosun College, will present a Writing Workshop for members, writers and other interested adults. 

Have you got an idea for a story, but are not sure how to start writing? This workshop is for you! In this hour and a half session Kari will lead us in exploring ideas for building a story out of a concept and shaping a compelling plot.

Polly Horvath, winner of the 2013 Bolen Book Award for One Year in Coal Harbour, will come and talk to us about her writing career. Polly’s award winning books, such as The Trolls, The Canning Season, and My One-Hundred Adventures, delight children with their quirky sense of humour, rich language and plucky heroines.
