Meet author Robert (Lucky) Budd


Robert (Lucky) Budd holds an MA in history and has digitized many high-profile oral history collections including that of the Nisga’a First Nation. As well as co-authoring the Northwest Coast Legends series, he is the author of Voices of British Columbia (Douglas & McIntyre, 2010), a bestseller that was shortlisted for the 2011 Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award, and its sequel, Echoes of British Columbia (Harbour Publishing, 2014). He currently lives in Victoria, BC.

Robert will tell us about the beautiful Northwest Coast Legends series, Raven Brings the Light, Orca Chief, and Cloudwalker, and Roy Henry Vickers’ creative process.

Join Gareth Gaudin, the award-winning cartoonist for a look at his new original comic book series, The Monster Sisters. Loaded with Victoria landmarks and historical details, The Monster Sisters thrills readers young and old with plenty of action, puns, and local history. In addition to his many notable creative accomplishments, Gareth is one of the foremost dealers of vintage comics on the continent and is the co-owner of Legends Comics and Books. His other works include Magic Teeth Dailies, the adventures of the irrepressible Perogy Cat, and illustrator of Silence is Song by Shane Koyczan.

Doors open 7pm, presentation starts at 7:30pm. All welcome. $5. Members free.

Monique Polak

 



THE TRUTH ABOUT WRITING YA FICTION

 

Monique Polak will discuss the many steps that go into writing a 
YA novel — from generating ideas and doing research to getting a manuscript ready for publication. In addition to reading excerpts from her work, Monique will share loads of practical tips. She will also do a short writing exercise designed to help participants find the stories they most need to tell.  

Monique Polak is the author of 17 novels for young adults. She is a two-time winner of the Quebec Writers’ Federation Prize for Children’s and YA Literature. She has been teaching English and Humanities at Marianopolis College in Montreal for more than 30 years and is a frequent contributor to the Montreal Gazette and to Postmedia publications across the country.
